Who we are

We are a group of passionate people who work to raise awareness of the issues that women face globally, to advocate for their rights, and to promote their economic and social empowerment.

Maryann’s story

As a migrant woman ourselves, we know first-hand how challenging the migration experience can be, placing many migrants -especially women- in vulnerable positions. They can encounter a lack of opportunities, discrimination, isolation, mental health issues, and domestic violence amongst other challenges and hardships.

My family were immigrants and we migrated from Taiwan when I was 10, having witnessed personally my parents who struggled culturally with language barrier and not able to find mainstream employment. As a result, my father returned back to Taiwan to start up his own business and my mother was a full time housewife looking after three of us girls. When my father was diagnosed with cancer and later passed away, my mother was left with the burden of looking after three children by herself with no job experience, support or income source. If training and mentorship was offered to her to upskill her, she would have been able to find employment. We wouldn’t have to personally go through the financial hardship that no children should ever had to experience.  Women can encounter a lack of opportunities, discrimination, isolation, mental health issues, and domestic violence amongst other challenges and hardships.

This has a significant impact on me growing up and therefore it is my mission to make a change and impact within our community.

Consequently, I have a strong desire and passion to educate and empower women by offering them business education, training and mentorship so that they have the opportunity to gain an entry into employment.

The name Reach Her was designed to reach out to all women and help address systemic issues through collaboration. I strongly believe we can work together and make a great and sustainable impact within our community.

While we acknowledge the task will not be easy, we are incredibly passionate about making a difference, and instilling positive change.
